ENGR. CHARISMA VICTORIA CAYAPAN got her BS Geodetic Engineering degree from the department in 2003 and passed the Geodetic Engineering Licensure Examination in the same year where she placed 10th among the top passers. She has completed 30 units in MS Remote Sensing, also from the department. In 2011, she finished the degree of Master in Navigation and Related Applications as cum laude from Politecnico di Torino through the UN-Italy Long Term Fellowship Programme on GNSS.
Continuously striving to improve her expertise in GNSS, surveying, and mapping, she has attended several training programs including the following: Networked Reference Stations Internship (June-Nov. 2011, Leica Geosystems – Switzerland); Short Course on Advanced GPS Data Analysis and Modelling for Scientific and Practical Applications (Nov. 2012, UP Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry); Bernese GPS Software Workshop (Feb. 2013, JICA, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines); Technical Seminar on Reference Frame in Practice (June 2013, International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), IAG, UN-GGIM and PhilGEGS); GNSS Summer School (September 2013, Vietnam); and Multi-GNSS Environment for Sustainable Development (September 2013, International Collaboration Centre for R&D on Satellite Navigation Technology in South East Asia).
Engr. Cayapan currently holds a position of Engineer III in the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA), where she serves as head of the PageNET Group, the country’s network of continuously operating reference stations. She looks at GE as an integral part of her work, “from defining the geodetic reference frame which serve as the reference for all surveying and mapping activities in the country, to generating the topographic base maps which are fundamental datasets for the management, development and study of our environment and natural resources.”
Born in Catarman, Northern Samar, Charisma is now married to fellow DGE alumni Alfredo Cayapan (BSGE 2002) and currently lives in Rizal with their two kids, Raphael Jed and Isabella Rania. She is into sports, dancing and crossword puzzles.
