She completed her primary education in Caloocan Elementary School-Central and her secondary education in La Consolacion College-Caloocan. In 2001, she completed her BS Geodetic Engineering degree from the GE department. She is also a holder of the Diploma in Remote Sensing also from the department.
Engr. Sontillanosa has previously been a Remote Sensing Technologist II at the Geospatial Integration Division – Resource Data Analysis Branch of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) where she got involved with projects such as Land Cover Mapping, Inventory of Forestland Occupants, Research Project on ALOS-PALSAR, and Updating of ENR Datasets. As of May 2014, she has been promoted to Information Systems Analysts III in Geospatial Database Management Division – Geospatial Information System Management Branch of NAMRIA. She is also a trainer of Basic GIS using ArcGIS in NAMRIA Geomatics Training Center (NGTC) since 2011.
Among her recent trainings and conferences are: JICA Training for Satellite Remote Sensing Data Analysis Technology for Disaster/Environmental Monitoring (Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan, Tokyo); Training Workshop on Synthetic Aperture Radar Image Processing for Forest Cover Classification and Change Detection in Support of REDD+ MRV Development (UP Diliman); INTERMAP IFSAR Data Fundamentals Training (NAMRIA, sponsored by CERTEZA Infosys Corp.); JAXA Training preparing for ALOS-2 Data Use utilizing ALOS Data (NAMRIA); 12th South East Asian Survey Congress (Manila); DENR-NAMRIA Training on Advanced Remote Sensing Techniques in Support of the Next Cycle of Land Cover Mapping (conducted by US Forest Service Remote Sensing Applications Center); Training on the Development of GIS-based Elements-at-Risk Database using High-Resolution Remote Sensing Data; Sentinel Asia Success Story in the Philippines: Technical Training on Multi-Spectral and RADAR Image Processing.
Currently pursuing Masters in Environment and Natural Resources Management – Major in Upland Resources under the UP Open University (UPOU) program, Rosalyn believes that Geodetic Engineers as herself “are trained to produced maps of different scales from field surveys, Photogrammetry, GIS and Remote Sensing. These maps are essential in Disaster Risk and Reduction Management and Management of our Natural Resources.”
