UP DGE & TCAGP offers a variety of short courses that may be as short as 3 days or as long as 3 weeks depending on the topic. Some of the courses that have been offered previously are:
Trainor’s Training on Imaging SAR Data, Processing and Applications
The general objective of this group training is to develop a pool of experts with advanced knowledge in Radar Remote Sensing, particularly the processing of SAR images for various applications.The training aims to address some research and development gaps which includes limited utilization of radar images for various application in the Philippines, the need to pursue development of algorithms and methodology suited for Philippine condition, and the limited number of people in the Philippines with sufficient knowledge and skills in processing radar images. The approach here is to train trainors as wells selected users and potential beneficiaries of radar image data and analysis. The training is very significant as it answers the needs for the Philippines to increase its utilization of radar imaging and images considering the limitations of optical images in relation to cloud cover. Also, significant additional information (e.g. biomass) can be better derived from the analysis of radar images. The pool of experts and users must therefore be increased. Global Navigation Satellite System for Land Surveying
This is a practical course on the application of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for land surveyors to enable the participants to understand the basic theories and principles of satellite-based positioning and its application to surveying.
High Resolution Satellite Remote Sensing
This course will enable participants to gain proficiency in processing high resolution satellite imagery. At the end of the course, the participant will be able to perform basic and advanced mapping functions using high resolution satellite images.
Modern Mapping for Environmental and Natural Resource Management
This is a practical course on the use of Remote Sensing (RS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) in environment and natural resource mapping and management. At the end of the course, the participants are expected to gain practical experience on the use of remotely-sensed images and GPS data for resource mapping and management applications.
Online Geographic Information Systems and Web Mapping
This course provides actual, hands-on implementation of web mapping tools and introduces the concept of data sharing and visualization of GIS outputs such as maps and features in the Internet and other local network connections.GIS for Provincial Physical Framework Planning
GIS for Provincial Physical Framework Planning
At the end of the seminar, the participants are expected to gain straightforward practical experience on employing GIS in the provincial physical framework planning, specifically in the aspect of map generation, representation and analysis. This course is specifically designed for provincial planning and development officers who are engaged in physical framework planning and management.
GDAM was a short course on basic and advanced GPS data analysis and modeling conducted by the UP TCAGP last November 23-25 and November 28-December 2, 2011 at the National Engineering Center, UP Diliman. Local experts on GPS theory and applications served as resource speakers and instructors for the basic part of GDAM. The advanced part of the short course was handled by two recognized international experts on advanced GPS data analysis and modelling. They are Dr. Robert W. King, Principal Research Scientist at the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Dr. Rob McCaffrey, Research Scientist at the Department of Geology, Portland State University, Portland, Oregon USA. GDAM was supported by DOST-PCIEERD and DOST-ERDT.
